Yes. PayLater is certified Shari’ah-compliant by Bait Al-Mashura Finance Consultations Company, a licensed Shari’ah advisory firm based in Doha, Qatar.
Certificate No. 1917, issued 5 January 2025, signed by Dr. Osama Qais Al-Dereai.
Compliance is built into the model
- No riba (interest). You pay only the price of what you buy, split into four instalments. 0% interest, and no profit is ever charged on the credit.
- Independently certified. Our Buy Now Pay Later structure, conditions and activities are certified Shari’ah-compliant by Bait Al-Mashura.
- Overseen by scholars. A Fatwa and Shari’ah Supervisory Board reviews our structure, and any change to the product is presented to them before it goes live.
Why the late payment fee is also Shari’ah-compliant
The late payment fee is the only fee PayLater charges, and it applies only when an instalment is not paid on time.
- It is not interest. It is never a charge on the credit and never a percentage that grows over time.
- It is a flat QAR 50. One fixed amount, the same for every shopper.
- PayLater keeps none of it. The full amount is donated to charity, approved by our Shari’ah Committee.
- It exists only to encourage payments on time.
Our Shari’ah Committee has issued a dedicated ruling covering late payment costs, so both the structure and the fee are certified compliant.
